First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Mohsen al-Mandalawi expressed surprise at recent statements by the head of the legislative authority, which insulted Parliament, undermined the role of its members, and denied their efforts at the legislative and oversight levels over the past three years.
Al-Mandlawi said in a statement that the House of Representatives witnessed the peak of its activity and achievements towards the end of last year, as it made great strides in the legislative aspect and succeeded in passing many important laws that the people had been waiting for, including the three-year budget, the staffing, care for people with disabilities, the National Security Service, the commission, the anti-prostitution law, and others. He added that parliamentary committees also played a supervisory role by hosting ministers and senior officials.
The First Deputy Speaker called on the Presidency, the heads of political blocs, and parliamentary committees to hold an urgent meeting to examine the priorities of the current phase, recalibrate the Council's performance, revitalize its committees, and ensure it is on par with the challenges and threats facing Iraq and the countries of the region, as it is entrusted with safeguarding the supreme interests and representing the popular will.

What is the fate of the investigation into the Basra municipality director regarding the fingerprint of the weapon threat?

Citizens are wondering about the fate of the parliamentary services committee's interrogation of Basra Municipality Director Firas Abdul Khaliq, following his threatening of employees with a weapon, a crime punishable by law, especially since he runs a state institution.
Observers said that if a poor citizen had done the same thing as the municipality director, he would have been subjected to the most heinous punishment, while the official is beyond accountability, as many claim, as the law applies to everyone. Activists expressed surprise at the tour conducted by Basra municipality director Firas Abdul Khaliq with the brother of the Minister of Electricity, Saif al-Din Ali Fadhil, while the citizen was awaiting the results of the interrogation that the parliamentary services committee claimed it would conduct.
