Kuwait raises the marriage age from 15 to 18 years.

The Kuwaiti government raised the marriage age from 15 to 18 after amending the Personal Status Law.
According to a decree published in the official gazette "Kuwait Today," Article 26 of the Personal Status Law was amended to "prohibit the documentation or ratification of a marriage contract for anyone who has not reached the age of 18 at the time of documentation."
According to the memorandum, it "takes into account Kuwait's international obligations, particularly the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which defines a child as anyone under the age of 18 and obligates states to protect them from early marriage, and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, which guarantees the free and full consent of spouses and encourages setting a minimum age for marriage."
Kuwaiti Justice Minister Nasser Al-Sumait had previously stated that 30 percent of underage couples in Kuwait are foreigners, with most of them Syrian, Saudi, Iranian, Afghan, Egyptian, and Qatari.
